First a little bit about how the town of North Pole came about.
The City of North Pole was first incorporated as a city in 1953. The original plan in selecting the name "North Pole" was to attract the toy industry to manufacture articles from the "North Pole". This endeavor failed to blossom. But North Pole continued to grow. North Pole became the focal point for the military bases and established schools and churches.
In 1975 the North Pole Refinery, MAPCO, became one major industry in the area. Since then, a second refinery, Petro Star, has been constructed. The refineries gave North Pole a large tax base and the area underwent a period of rapid growth, unprecedented even in Alaska. The city has one of the highest assessed evaluations per capita in Alaska. Government is of the "Home Rule" type with residents electing a mayor and six council members.
North Pole, with its full complement of city services (Police, Fire and Public Works) remains poised to participate prominently in Alaska's future. A nice place to spend a lifetime.
North Pole has 1,659 residents living within the city limits with many more in the nearby outlying areas. For instance, I live about 6 miles away from the center of town, and I am considered outside city limits. It is located 13 miles South of Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway.

And how's the weather?!

And while you're here, you must go visit Santa Claus House! Especially since I work there(~;
